A Little Bit of Death VIII
program 2024
I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to Goodyear Arts for donating their space to host A Little Bit of Death. A thank you to the audience that held space for the storytellers. And a huge thank you to the storytellers for sharing such vulnerable parts of their stories so openly.
A Little Bit of Death is an annual storytelling show centering BIPOC voices and Queer voices. A Little Bit of Death VIII is an annual storytelling ritual created by Zulynette, centering BIPOC stories and Queer stories on grief, letting go, and healing. It is a transformative night of narrative sharing and holding space for community.

a poet named superman (he/him)
A Poet Named Superman, otherwise known as Greg Murray, was born and raised in the small town of Neptune, NJ. He currently lives in Charlotte, NC where he curates and hosts multiple events including Release Therapy open mic - the longest running open mic in Charlotte. Along with winning multiple awards for his craft, he was named Poet of The Year in Charlotte in 2020 and again in 2021. As the reigning King of the South slam champion, he travels across the nation sharing his work. He’s released several audio projects and literary works, continuing to be a major figure in the spoken word/poetry community locally and nationally. When asked why he writes and performs, his answer is: “To save the world… one word at a time.”
maggie lowe (they/them)
Maggie Lowe is a soulful musical storyteller, pairing irreverent wit with sides of spice and sass. Like honey-sweetened tea on a hot summer day, their songs are inspired by always-sincere and often-funny tales of love and identity, pulling together threads of the human experience that everyone can relate to. Their music stylings are comparable to Tracy Chapman, Joy Oladokun Brandi Carlile, Alabama Shakes, Marcus King, Sara Bareilles, and Ben Rector.
kari (she/her)
Kari is a twinkly witch fairy who - when she isn’t dabbling in tarot, learning to heal herself and others, and drawing up master pieces - guest stars on Zulynette’s podcast, Lighting a Candle.
adrian parrish (they/them)
Adrian Parrish is a non-binary queer poet, comedian, event organizer, and storyteller. They have performed at the Queen City Comedy Experience, Sensoria Literary festival, and Charlotte Pride. Their unique blend of humor, wordplay, and engaged storytelling has impacted audiences at a variety of shows. One half of Makers + Mics, they seek to build connections and to share queer stories because they believe telling our stories is the most important tool we have to understand each other.
Zulynette (she/her)
Zulynette (she/her) is a queer, Puerto Rican performer, artist, and accomplished author. Born in Chicago and raised in Hartford, CT, Zulynette’s work is rooted in a deep care and love of her community. After growing up in hard spaces, her work is an invitation to be bold, expansive, and curious about oneself.
As a skilled facilitator with her Masters in Social Work and a Certification in breath work, she incorporates both into her workshops and performances. This results in experiences that activate the senses and creates the brave space for individual and communal healing.
She is the Creator and Director of the annual storytelling event, A Little Bit of Death, and the author of two books of poetry, Seeing in the Dark (2022) and Building a Powerhouse (2017). Her work has been featured in They Call Us, the Hartford Courant, Review: Literature and Arts of the Americas, and elsewhere; she has also been featured on-air with Connecticut Public Radio and NBC Connecticut.
You can find Zulynette musing on the thread that ties everything in the Universe together on her podcast, Lighting a Candle.
