A Little bit of death

A Little Bit of Death is an annual storytelling show I created and direct that centers the narratives of BIPOC and Queer people. This event is a ritualistic community space with themes of transformation, grieving, and letting go. Since 2015, I have curated this spell to hold community both off and on the stage as we lean into sometimes difficult stories, sometimes triumphant stories, sometimes both.

It is a powerful night of togetherness, bearing witness, and healing.

Director

Directing is about fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and heard. Whether it’s directing my annual storytelling show A Little Bit of Death , co-directing antiracism forum theater plays such as Stuck in the Tape and Set it Up written by Gineiris Garcia, or co-directing youth plays that help express their perspectives about social justice topics, I encourage open dialogue among cast members, cultivating trust and community within the group to bring written words and ideas to life on stage.

play creation

Working with young people, especially through HartBeat Ensemble’s Youth Play Institute, I’ve co-directed multiple plays working collaboratively to develop and express youths’ perspectives about social justice topics and engage audiences through a political lens.
